Three on Thursday :: Santa Martha Bay

Three pictures from last Sunday.

We drove through Banda Abou again and made our way to Santa Martha. It’s a nice drive (if you’re like my husband and like to drive narrow, curvy roads in the hills) and it has some beautiful views (but we didn’t stop to take pictures – you can see the ones I took four years ago here).

That route takes you to an abandoned resort and a beach that is usually very quite. It wasn’t now, a group young men and women was gathering there and having lots of fun playing in the higher than normal (we’re having some strong winds) waves. We brought our swim suits, but decided to stick to just standing in the water (in Dutch we call that “pootjebaden” which could be translated to “leg bathing” – I don’t know if there’s a word for it in English).

We just stood there for a while, enjoying, savoring the moments. We’re getting good at that ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Such gorgeous scenery! I don't think we do have an English (American) word for 'leg bathing' but I would call it “toes in.” I don't care where I go, if there's water, I have to put my toes in. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. ha! i like “leg bathing” ๐Ÿ™‚ which, as sharon says, we call it wading. you can wade in a puddle or into a stream or in the edge of a lake or the sea. also, your brown legs and toes in the surf make me just ache for summer . . . it's coming! someday! today we have heavy grey skies with lots of snow in the forecast – so far though, it's not snowing. i'm grateful for that today.

  3. I love learning new words ๐Ÿ˜‰ Though today I had to look up “fire” in Papiamentu, because the neigbors didn't understand I was yelling in Dutch and English that their bushes were on fire. That was kind of scary, but luckily I found the word and we got it out in time.Hope spring comes your way soon!

  4. Yes, wading is what we call it. And I agree with the body bathing comment from Leslie. That was me on a visit to the Pacific near San Fran. The waves were bigger than my normal Florida experience, so I had to go to a mall to get dry clothing! LOL
