From my stash

I have a rather big fabric stash. Bought at the market or thrift shop, or handed to me from people that know I ‘m happy to receive it. But lately it was just lying there and I was actually considering getting rid of most of it.
Luckily the green bag changed all that. I’m inspired to make things again.
This is what is left of a piece of fabric that has been lying in my closet for two, maybe even three years.

It was about 1.5 meter of thick cotton with a large print. I think it was part of a curtain.

This is what I made of it.

:: a giant grocery bag

(and I do mean giant It easily holds three A4 binders)

:: a small library bag (big enough for a few books)

:: and a fun purse

I used my serger. Fun and fast. Not that I need all those bags, but I rather have a stash of bags than a stash of fabric. Those bags usually find homes pretty fast.

Finally sewing again

I sort of lost my crafting creativity. I hardly did any sewing last year and since february none at all.
Oh wait, there was. I did make this tiny cozy for the pocket camera I got for my birthday.

But that was it. Until this week. It suddenly hit me. I walked into my sewing room, pulled out a few fabrics and started cutting with only the vaguest idea of what I was making.
This is what I ended up with.

I love it.
And I love even more that I feel inspired to make things again.

Out of Africa

On my pile of things to make there was some fabric that I brought from South-Africa last year. It was about time to do something with it.
The fabric on top is a way too big for me apron, that I cut up and made a skirt off first. But it had a weird fit and you could see right through it. So I cut it up again and made an apron that will fit me.

 The white fabric with the panels was easy to decide what to make with them. Bags, of course. It’s quite heavy fabric, so I just used my serger and didn’t line them. Simple but useful.

The last piece of fabric… oh my. What was I thinking when I bought it? The fabric was really synthetic (not cotton -I thought it was) and the print is giant. I had no idea what to do with it, until I spread it out on the table to look at it and figure something out. Duh! Tablecloths. I had just enough to make two. A little hemming and done.

The pile has shrunk again. Now I really need to work on those quilts…

A cover

In my family I’m known as the one who makes covers and bags for everything.
But isn’t giving boring (but that’s what he asked for) maps much more fun in a nice cover?

The first quilt of my list. All done.
Made entirely from vintage pillowcases. Some squares are log cabin, some simpler blocks.
It is a sister to the one I made before, but it’s not with that one on our bed, it’s on it’s way to a dear (internet) friend.
